If your cat is over 6 years old, there’s a 60% chance that she has some degree of arthritis. At age 10, the likelihood goes up to 90%. Since cats are masters at hiding pain, signs can be subtle, and even the most dedicated cat parents may not be aware that their cats are suffering in silence. The Knead Therapeutic Bed was created to help these cats.

I was immediately drawn to the clever name, and I was intrigued. The bed was developed with veterinarians, and the amount of thought that went into the design is testament to the fact that these people know cats. Then I read about a Citrus Lab study that showed that 76% of the cats participating in the study showed improvement after using the bed for six weeks. Now I was impressed.

The study results were remarkable:

    • 82% of participants observed a decrease in their cats’ pain.
    • 75 % were back to pouncing and playing.
    • More than 70% took pride in their appearance again. (A lack of grooming can be a sign of pain.)

Knead Features

The bed is made from human grade memory foam. The shape is designed to purrfectly cradle feline bodies and reduce joint pain. It is designed with cat safe heating technology. The removable cover can be machine washed and line dried. The heating film and memory foam can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth.

The bed warms to a safe cat-friendly 104°F (40°C) within 3 – 4 minutes, with smart controls to prevent overheating. It comes with five herbal anti-inflammatory aromatherapy patches that can be inserted into the bed

The bed has three different settings:

  • 4-Hour Heating Mode (Red Indicator): The bed will heat to 104°F (40°C) and auto shut-off after 4 hours.
  • 8-Hour Heating Mode (Blue Indicator): The bed will heat to 104°F (40°C) and auto shut-off after 8 hours.
  • Therapy mode (Green Indicator): The 30-minute herbal therapy mode gently heats to 113°F (45°C). It delivers targeted warmth to promote blood circulation and relieve arthritis-related discomfort, and can be used with the aromatherapy patches if desired.

Putting the Knead Therapy Bed to the test

The bed arrives beautifully packaged in a substantial box.

The bed comes fully assembled. All you have to do is plug in the USB cable and then plug the adapter into a wall outlet.

How does the saying go? A picture is worth a thousand words?

This was Allegra, seconds after I plugged the bed in:

A minute or two later, she started to relax and settle on the bed:

And another five minutes later, she was ready to take a nap:

We’ve only had the bed for a few days. At this point, she goes back and forth between her beloved Lola blanket basket and this bed. I’m excited to see her in the bed, even if for now it’s only for a few minutes at a time, because I know the therapeutic warmth along with the supportive design are benefiting her. I’m confident that she will use this bed more and more.

Because I’m extremely scent sensitive, we’re not using the herbal aromatherapy pads. I just don’t like to have anything scented around my home. I have no doubt that the gentle herbal therapy could benefit cats, but if you or your cat are sensitive to scents, leave them out.

My take on the Knead Therapeutic Bed

This is not your average heated cat bed. The thoughtful design and therapeutic features make this an investment in your cat’s comfort and well-being.

  1. I just ordered the Knead Therapeutic Bed for my (perhaps) 11 year old cat, Lulu. Yesterday my husband and I visited the shelter where we adopted Lulu just over two years ago – Young at Heart Senior Pet Rescue. We talked with their resident care specialist and told her about our planned order of this bed, and she agreed wholeheartedly. Lulu’s arthritis is not good; she receives monthly Solensia injections which don’t seem to help her walking, but she is in no pain. Ingrid, I hope you are credited for your knowledgeable ad and my order. When Lulu is not sleeping on the bed, I’ll use it for my arthritic knees.

      • Hi Ingrid, Lulu loves her Knead Therapeutic Bed. I was a little worried about whether or not she would become acquainted with this bed. The transition instructions included with this bed are extremely helpful, and I suggest that all new owners read these instructions when this bed is taken out of the shipping box. Lulu needed two to three days to finally begin sleeping, napping, and or just sitting on this bed. My husband and I set her heated bed at the bottom of our own bed because Lulu has several health concerns, and we want her in our bedroom overnight to observe her appetite and eating. I know that she feels very contented with the warmth of this bed; I am so happy as well that we are taking even better care of our beloved little girl.

  2. I want one of these for my girls. It sounds like a great new product that lots of cats will benefit from. I even won’t one for myself too.
